Volunteer training is required to be completed by all S.A.F.E. Place Volunteers and Interns. Training does not need to be completed all at once.  The group trainings are more interactive, include interesting discussion, and an opportunity to meet other volunteers and staff members. Training is offered three times a year to accommodate schedules. Typically in January, May and in September.

Our crisis intervention training covers topics including, but not limited to:

  • Shelter Orientation and History of S.A.F.E. Place
  • Domestic Violence and the History of DV
  • Domestic Violence Education and Safety Planning
  • Counseling and Trauma Informed Practice
  • Court Systems and Law Enforcement
  • Civil Rights
  • Human Trafficking
  • Intersectionality, Understanding Privilege and the Role of Allyship
  • LGBTQ+ and Pronouns
  • Creating and Identifying Resources for Survivors
  • Compassion Fatigue/Burnout and Self-Care
  • Children and Domestic Violence
  • Teen Dating Violence
  • Perpetrator Dynamics

COVID-19 UPDATE VOLUNTEER/INTERNSHIP

We take the recent health and safety concerns due to COVID seriously and we want to ensure that our interns have the staff and adequate duties/hours necessary for their placements. That being said, we are accepting limited volunteer opportunities on site. If you are interested in volunteering or an internship placement please reach out to me. We continue to social distance and require masks throughout the building by staff and volunteers.

We appreciate your continued support and look forward to having you back at S.A.F.E. Place. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

- Thank you, Callie Belt, Volunteer Coordinator
